Samsung files ITC complaint against Apple

Samsung and Apple's legal battle over trademark and patent infringement continues to heat up. The latest salvo was fired by Samsung which lodged a complaint with the ITC asking for a ban on the import of the iPhone, iPad and iPod. The court has up to 18 months to make a decision on this request. Apple has yet to file an ITC complaint, but it is likely to do so after this move by Samsung.

The bigger question is not about trade dress and infringement, but the weakening relationship between Samsung and Apple. Are the two companies headed for a separation or will they stay manufacturing BFFs throughout this legal skirmish?

Samsung files ITC complaint against Apple originally appeared on TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog on Wed, 29 Jun 2011 10:45:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Office 365 apps for iPhone and Android not coming soon Microsoft launched Office 365 to the world this week, but the company's cloud product development is by no means complete. But don't look for dedicated applications for the iPhone and Android or a more complete browser-based experience for Office Web Apps.

Delay Before Going into Sleep Mode

I had been experiencing a thirty second delay when I tried to put my iMac into Sleep mode.

I discovered that after I hooked up a USB modem to receive faxes that I had left the 'Receive faxes on this computer' option checked in the Receive Options of the Fax preferences. Unchecking that box enabled me to go into Sleep mode with no delay.

[crarko adds: USB devices have often been culprits in Sleep problems with Macs for a long time, as indicated in these previous hints. Checking them out is always a good step in troubleshooting problems with Sleep/Wake from Sleep.]

10.6: Sync folder icons with Dropbox

Snow Leopard only hintAs you may know, with Dropbox all is kept in Sync between computers, but there is something that doesn't sync: Custom Folder Icons. To solve this I wrote an Automator Service.

With this Service you can select a number of folders (with custom icons) and launch the menu option 'Dropbox - Backup folder Icons' from the Services menu in Finder. Then when Dropbox does its next sync, in the other computer where you want to recover the icons, just launch the other Service: 'Dropbox - Recover folder Icons.'

INSTALL

Just expand the zip file after downloading and move the Services to your ~/Library/Services folder.

There is more information on how to install and use the Services (including screenshots) here.
